Capturing maternal and new-born deaths in the hospitals and community is very important to eliminate the underlying causes of the deaths of women and new-born. MPDSR is one of the important tools to capture the deaths in the absence of effective birth and death registration system. So far MPDSR covers only 11 districts (out of 77 districts that is 14.3% of all districts). To further expand the program strong evidences are needed on the basis of past experiences and performances. In this context it is very important to review the existing documents, analyze the data, interact with stakeholders to guide the program and help in developing future course of action.

World Health Organization (WHO) has assigned NTAG to analyze and review the progress on MPDSR to identify issues and gaps to strengthen MPDSR and develop/revise strategies for preventing maternal and perinatal deaths in the country.
