Beneficiaries : individuals, households, communities, and systems to help build the resilience of up to 160,000 households, in 14 food-insecure districts in the Far and Mid-West districts of Nepal

PAHAL is a five-year project that seeks to strengthen livelihoods, improve nutritional status, and increase the capacity of vulnerable households to mitigate, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses in rural communities.

Goal:

Vulnerable populations are resilient to the stressors and shocks that impede food security.

Objectives:

Objective 1: Individuals, households and communities mitigate risk of socio-ecological stressors and shocks that reduce local food security.

Objective 2: Strengthened and diversified livelihoods for food-insecure populations, including disadvantaged groups, improve availability of and accss to a nutritious diet.

Cross-cutting component: Adolescent girls, women of reproductive age, and caregivers of children under two have access to and can act on information and services that support nutritional status.

PLANNED ACTIVITIES

  • Improved knowledge and skills to manage and respond to the social and ecological hazards to food security
  • Diversification of agriculture and non-agriculture based livelihoods through access to financial services, financial and business skills, and vocational training
  • Increased access to markets for disadvantaged groups
  • Improved productivity of crops and livestock as well as access to nutritionally diverse foods
  • Adoption of natural resource management and disaster risk reduction practices
  • Improved nutrition for pregnant and lactating women and their children (aged 6-23 months)
  • Sustainable access to and appropriate use of safe water and sanitation facilities
  • Increased influence over natural resource management for marginalize

NTAG’s roles in PAHAL

  1. Capacity building to PAHAL and other concerned local NGO staffs on nutrition and health component with special focus on the knowledge and practices on Maternal and Infant Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN).
  2. Development of IEC/BCC materials on nutrition
  3. Food & Nutrition corner demonstration including WASH corner at market places
  4. Onsite coaching to the PAHAL staffs on nutrition
